Dave,
I live in the tourist town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Limon. The "poor side" of the country. Been there almost 6 years with residency status. The Costa Rican "senate' has been in session looking to changing the requirements for residency recently and expats with rentista and pensinado status are up in arms over changes they want to make. All we can do is lobby for ourselves we have and deserve no political voice in this country. My main advise would be to buy no consession property and to find a good, honest attorney in any and all business transactions.
My male, Kaybo, passed away in August. We got him from a German woman here at 18 months old and he was covered in ticks. Needless to say, I nursed him through heart and hook worms and he had this lyme type disease, no dictionary where I'm at, echincha? His heart gave out. He was a wonderful dog and this makes me cry to type. I still have my female, Saffire and she's a ring-tailed tooter. She's a little over 3 years now and we got her at 3 months old and she's received the monthly treatments an animal needs to survive where we live. I don't treat the cats any longer as they were dying faster with me giving their medicine. Revolution, Cardomec, First Alert, etc. I just have the cats fixed now. The dogs get all wormy without someone taking care of them and this stuff is costly here so be aware.
That's about all the advice I can give you. Use your common sense and if it sounds too good to be true, well, keep on walking.
Feliz Ano Nuevo??!!
Donna
