Ooops...I sent the wrong photo. This was the larger band playing in Tokyo. That's me on the lower right, sitting down with my saxophone. I'm sending one of me and the guy playing a solo shaking President Ikeda's hand.
Dear Kira, I don't know if you got my last response regarding SGI. I've been a member since I was 18 years old and started practicing in Santa Monica. I've been on five Tozans to chant to the Dai Gohonzon and was there in 1972 for the Sho Hondo Completion Ceremony. As you probably know, the priests had it torn down. I've met President Ikeda on four different occasions. I have a photo of him shaking my hand at Daisekegi. My father is a famous jazz musician in California and he taught me how to play the sax and flute. My friends and I formed a 4 piece jazz group in SGI called the Tribune Band and played all over Japan. We even played at the Buddhakon in front of thousands of members. It was amazing. I hope you have a happy life in Japan and who knows, maybe I'll see you when I go to Japan again. Peace, Wayne
Hi Kira,
Are you a photographer. If so, I really like your work. I'm an artist living in California and specialize in "Surf Art." I recently made the cover of a surfing magazine called Longboard. It's on my site. I'm also a Buddhist and have been to Japan 5 times. I played with a jazz group all over Japan and visited Osaka twice. I went to the Osaka Castle and saw all the cool samurai uniforms. I love Japan and can't wait to go back there. I'm trying to get my "Surf Art" known amongst Japan's growing surf community. There are some awesome surfers there. Please feel free to visit my site. I hope all is well. Sincerely, Wayne
